Piano Removal in Spring, TX
An old upright is one of the heaviest single items in a house. It goes out during stop four, once the path to the door is clear, and it goes out on a skid board, not by hand.
Removal, Not Moving
If the piano is going to a new home to be played, you want a piano mover. If it is leaving for good because nobody plays it, it will not hold a tune, or the estate needs the room, you want removal. Removal crews still use a skid board and straps, because an upright can weigh several hundred pounds and tips easily.
Entry halls in Spring's two-story homes are often tiled, and a dragged piano cracks tile. Ask how the contractor protects the floor between the piano and the door.

What Changes the Job
| Situation | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Upstairs or a split-level step | Stairs are the hardest part of any piano job; say how many steps. |
| Grand or baby grand | Legs come off; the body travels on its side. More crew. |
| Front steps or a porch | Even two or three steps need ramps or extra hands. |
| Tile, wood or carpet on the path | Tile and wood need protection from wheels and skids. |
Piano Questions
Is piano removal the same as piano moving?
No. A piano mover relocates an instrument that will be played again and charges for that care. Removal is for a piano that is leaving for good, which usually costs less and may involve taking it apart.
Can an old upright be donated?
Sometimes, but many older uprights have cracked soundboards or loose tuning pins and are not worth moving to a new home. A piano technician can tell you before you decide.
What about a grand piano?
Grands need the legs and lyre removed and the body turned on its side on a skid board. Say it is a grand on the call; it is a different crew size.
Retire the Old Upright
Say whether it is an upright or a grand, which floor, and how many steps to the driveway. An independent Spring-area contractor quotes the removal.
