Hot Tub Removal in Spring, TX

An old hot tub is part of stop three, the backyard. It is usually the single heaviest item in a whole-house cleanout and the one most likely to need cutting apart before it leaves.

The method

Why a Hot Tub Is a Demolition Job

A drained tub still weighs hundreds of pounds, and much of that is the frame, the foam and the equipment bay. The shell is usually wider than a standard side gate. So the usual method is to cut it into pieces on the patio, bag the foam, and carry the pieces out.

Tubs that sat under pines for years often have rotted skirting and a nest or two in the equipment bay. Say if the tub has been sitting unused; it helps the crew plan for what they will find when the panels come off.

Sequence

The Order Around the Tub

  1. 1

    Kill the power

Breaker off at the disconnect. If the circuit is to be removed, book an electrician.

  2. 2

    Drain it

Let it drain to a spot that will not wash toward the slab.

  3. 3

    Cut and carry

The crew sections the shell and hauls the pieces, the cover and the steps.

  4. 4

    Look at the pad

Concrete pads usually stay. Pavers or a deck under the tub are a separate decision.

What to Tell the Contractor

  • Size and whether it is a portable tub or built into a deck
  • Where the disconnect is and whether it is off
  • The narrowest point on the way out: gate, side yard, a fence panel
  • Whether the cover, steps and any gazebo over it go too
FAQ

Hot Tub Questions

Who disconnects the power?

A hot tub is usually hardwired to a dedicated disconnect. Shutting off the breaker is something you can do; removing or capping the circuit is electrician work. Ask the contractor whether they want the power already disconnected.

Does the tub need to be drained?

Yes, a day or more ahead. A full tub is thousands of pounds of water; even a drained shell holds water in the lines and foam.

Will it fit through the side gate whole?

Often not. Most removals cut the shell into sections in the yard, which is why the job is priced as demolition plus haul.

Get the Tub Out

Tell the line the size, the power situation and the gate width. The request goes to an independent contractor in the Spring area who quotes the cutting and hauling.
