Old Fence and Deck Haul-Off in Spring, TX
Weathered pickets and a soft deck are part of stop three. This is about getting the old material out of the yard: the tear-out and the haul, not the rebuild.
Where the Line Sits
Two jobs get confused here. One is demolition and haul-off: pulling down an old fence or deck that is coming out and taking it away. The other is building the replacement, which is a fence or deck contractor's work. This page covers the first. If you already have a builder lined up, ask whether their bid includes tear-out; many do.
After a storm season the two often arrive together, with sections of fence down and a builder booked weeks out. Clearing the broken sections first gets the yard usable and lets the builder start clean.

Fence Lumber and the County Dumpsters
Harris County Precinct 4's homeowner dumpsters in Hockley and Tomball list deck boards and fence-replacement lumber among accepted items, with hardware removed and one load per homeowner per day. Contractors, box trucks and trailers are not allowed, so a hired crew's load goes to a private site.
A homeowner with a pickup and time can use that option. A whole backyard of fence or a deck with its framing is usually more than a pickup load or two.
What Shapes the Quote
- Linear feet of fence, or square feet of deck
- Whether posts and footings come out
- Whether a shared fence needs the neighbor's agreement before it comes down
- Access: a clear side yard versus carrying everything through a gate
Fence and Deck Questions
Will the hauler build the new fence too?
No. This page is about taking the old material away. Building a fence or deck is a fence or deck contractor's job, and many of them include tear-out in their own price, so it is worth asking before booking a separate haul.
Can the old fence go out with regular trash?
Usually only in small amounts. Harris County MUD 383, for example, excludes construction debris from its curbside service. A whole fence line is a load.
What about the posts in concrete?
Pulling set posts with their footings is heavier work than hauling pickets. Say whether the posts are coming out.
Clear the Old Fence Line
